LPT: Never make someone a priority for whom you are only an alternative.(r/LifeProTips)
No you don’t. This is shit advice promoting the ego centric activity of harboring resentment.
Focus on yourself, don’t focus on NOT focusing on someone.
Awareness is key.
EDIT: This got a lot of responses, wowsa. Thought I’d edit the original post and share some insight, take it for what you want.
To me, it’s boiled down to how I carry myself, that emanates outward towards other and quite literally can attract people like a magnet when taken to heart.
Ego Dissolution. There’s numerous amounts of reading on the subject, but all possessiveness, greed, anger, and resentment, even emotions- are a reaction of your Ego. Ever feel like ‘somethings not right’, all the time? Constantly Agitated? Carrying works stress over onto your SO? Your Ego at work.

If you want to take it to a more purist level, get into Buddhism, it is literally about dissolving your ego, so you can enjoy the time you have here, instead of thinking about enjoying your time here. Sounds simple, is difficult.
I’d start with the history of the man himself, and remember a lot of these are stories, just like the bible. They’re meant to make a point, and an impact. www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXrnxlfOT7w
As you cast less judgement, feel less fear, resent people less, carry less emotional weight and continue down this path- you can conquer your life and be truly happy, no matter what your circumstances.
I still work hard at it, every single day. I still fail every single day. That’s to be human.
I hope this helps some, that’s my only goal in writing all this out. I’ve found that a lot of my relationships issues could have been resolved had both parties just let go of their ego’s and embraced each other.
