[Lifestyle] I need to declutter my life!(r/minimalism)
I started reading Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up two weeks ago. It really has changed the way I clean up and organizing things.
You clean up once and keep it that way forever.
This is what my closet looks like now. All those hangers used to have clothes on them imgur.com/a/XIhgQ
Edit: just to give an example. Before reading the book, I would do my laundry and dump all of my clean clothes on my bed, telling myself that I’ll fold them or hang them up before I go to sleep. And of course I forget to do that until sleep time. Then I pick all of them up and dump them on my chair. Rinse and repeat.
Now, I fold up my clothes neatly and put them vertically in my drawer. Then I fold up my socks (the right way) and put them vertically in my sock drawer too. Everything has a place, a home. Nothing is out of order. And when I buy something new, it immediately gets a place to go. And that’s the only place it goes.
I’ve learned to treat my clothes with respect through folding. I no longer toss them everywhere. And when I fold them, I run my hands through the material and really feel the texture.
This is why this book is amazing. No where in the book is the word minimalism mentioned. Yet when I finished reading it, my mind feels at peace and my lifestyle closely resembles that of minimalism. It doesn’t mean my life is devoid of colors and styles. The opposite is true. Everything in my life is about me now. All of the things on my wall and my desk are about me, but I feel as clean and tidy as ever.
