The Pink-necked green pigeon is pretty cool(r/pics)
Common pigeons are not just gray but a complex mix of black, white, iridescence, red (brown), green and yes “pigeon gray”. They are spread through the world due to the aristocracy and elite prizing these beautiful birds. Unfortunately they thrive in our squalor and are disgustingly dirty birds. Beautiful disgusting birds. Did you ever notice a lot of them having missing toes or legs? That’s not due to predators but because unlike other birds that hop, pigeons shuffle their feet which get entwined in hair and string which get tighter and tighter cutting off circulation, cause narcosis and the limbs fall off. Pigeons can’t figure out how to untangle their feet but are somehow smart enough to fly across the country or through a war zone and make it back to their roust. If you want to appreciate more of this bird check out a book called “the Unseen City”. Did you know pigeons and some other birds produce “milk” like mammals do? That’s another disgusting fact about this beautiful bird. You didn’t ask for any of this info, but I thought I’d spread some pigeon love. There’s also an extinct breed of North American pigeon that was so populous that it would black out the sun while flying in huge flocks. They were tasty and went the way of the dodo. The pigeons we have now everywhere are called “rock doves” endemic from SE Europe, India and N Africa I believe.
Tldr: Pigeon Milk.
