[NeedAdvice] I’m 17 and can’t stand working, I’ve had 3 jobs this summer due to lack of ability to stay in the same place what can I do(r/getdisciplined)
If you don’t need the money, then it’s easy to see why you’re having trouble keeping a job. At your age, every job you have is going to suck because you’re only going to be able to get low-skill jobs, and it’s going to be like that until you finish college or spend a couple years building skills. That’s just reality for 99% of people. I’ll offer 3 pieces of advice that I hope you consider:
1) Read the book So Good They Can’t Ignore You by Dr. Cal Newport. That book is a life-changer, and it will explain to you why “following your passion” is bad advice, and I think it’s important for you to learn that because that’s a majority of the advice you’re going to get when it comes to loving your work. It’s already happening in these comments.
2) Find a way to make work necessary. I hated working at Taco Bell and Best Buy when I was 17, but I also had to pay my car insurance, car payment, cell phone, etc. If I knew I could quit my job, still have all those things, and only have to deal with my mom calling me…
