They Were White and They Were Slaves is a thoroughly researched challenge to the conventional historiography of colonial and industrial labor, a stunning journey into a hidden epoch, the slave trade of Whites, hundreds of thousands of whom were kidnapped, chained, whipped and worked to death in the American colonies and during the Industrial Revolution. This is a chronicle that has never been fully told, part of a vital heritage that has until now comprised the dustiest shelf in the darkest c… more about book…

……which deprived slave owning states from counting their slaves in the census to gain extra representation.

ETA- slavery wasn’t only a problem in the south, nor was it a solely an American problem, nor was it a race issue.

The issue of slavery here in America had been highly politicized by both the north and the ceding states in the south, such that, as we all know, facts became somewhat muddled. AFTER the civil war, it became a massive race issue with DEMOCRATS in the south, but the issue of racism, while undoubtedly intertwined with slavery to a large extent, is a separate one that doesn’t form the basis of or for slavery in the American colonies or our nation as it was at the time. This is proven in the fact that racism remained a problem even AFTER slavery ended.

Note- I am not a confederacy apologist, it is FACT that the confederated states SHAMEFULLY adopted a bastardized version of our Constitution that legitimized slavery, I’m just sick of all the politicization of the issue 150 years later. It is seized upon by race baiting identity politics mongers to paint America as evil and in need of their special, unique leadership to absolve us of our sins. News flash- these sins weren’t unique to our nation, but what IS unique to us, is that we fought a bloody civil war over it which resulted in the de-legitimization of the practice of slavery here.

Slavery is evil, period.

We fought a war that still has the record of having the highest death toll and that killed more Americans then any single war we’ve fought in since.

We paid the price for these sins a century and a half ago.

Time to get over it people.
