My grandfather worked for National Geographic for almost 40 years. Here’s some of the interesting situations he got himself into…(r/pics)
Clockwise from top left: (1) Leaving the jungles of Venezuela; (2) discovering the Wabar meteorite; (3) frozen as the first journalist at the South Pole in 1957; (4) with geishas in Japan; (5) with a kangaroo in Australia; (6) recovering from a cable car accident in the Andes; (7) with Yemeni soldiers during the 1962 revolution and (8, center) with King Faisal of Saudi Arabia.
He died 5 years ago. Since then, we have been working on a book of his and my grandmother’s life together and with the Geographic. We just got the printed copies and are super excited to share.
EDIT: If anyone wants to, you can check out our book on Amazon.
EDIT2: gowampygo reminded me that we made a Wiki page for him. Here it is.
