About this ranking

r/TrueLit is the literary-canon counterweight to Reddit's recommendation-heavy fiction communities. Across the complete 2019–2026 dataset, Moby-Dick leads with 809 mentions, followed by Blood Meridian (719), Anna Karenina (526), Middlemarch (433), and The Brothers Karamazov (416). Modernist difficulty is not a niche here: Ulysses (376), To the Lighthouse (299), and The Magic Mountain (282) all make the top ten. That differs sharply from r/suggestmeabook and r/booksuggestions, where accessible contemporary genre and book-club fiction dominate. Counts still measure discussion rather than approval—list debates and objections contribute alongside recommendations—but they reveal a community unusually willing to keep difficult primary texts in active conversation.

Most-mentioned in r/TrueLit

Ordered by tracked mention count across all published years. Sentiment is shown as context and does not change the order. The Upvotes toggle re-sorts by comment-score weight — display only, the canonical order stays mention-count.
